Oral Conscious Dental Sedation

With oral conscious sedation, Dr. Flinchum will prescribe a potent anti-anxiety medication that you’ll take before your procedure (usually at home on the day of your appointment). By the time we begin your treatment, you’ll feel so calm that your visit should be a breeze. While you won’t be put to sleep, your memory of the appointment might be blurry. Since you might feel groggy for the rest of the day, we recommend arranging for someone to transport you to and from our dental office.

Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation

Sometimes called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a sedative that is inhaled through a small mask worn over the nose during a dental procedure. Often, nitrous oxide is recommended for patients with milder levels of dental anxiety. Almost immediately after you begin breathing in this gas, you’ll feel relaxed and at ease, yet awake enough to respond to our requests. The sedative’s effects will wear off quickly once the mask is removed, allowing you to return to your normally scheduled day soon afterward.
